Poynting-Robertson effect

The effect of solar radiation on small particles orbiting the Sun, which causes them to spiral slowly in. The particles absorb solar energy that is streaming out radially, but re-radiate energy equally in all directions. As a consequence there is a reduction in their kinetic energy, and thus in their orbital velocity, which has the effect of reducing the size of their orbit.
